Introduction to City of Antalya
Antalya, the city of Turkey, is located on the sun-drenched South Western coast of the country. With every year, Antalya is becoming an ever-growing destination for travelers worldwide by popularity. Due to its importance as a tourist destination of Turkey, the city received the title of “The Capital of Turkish tourism”. Antalya is one of the most attractive cities for tourist destinations when compared with the rest of the world.
In the second century B.C the city was founded by the King of Pergamon, who named the city Attaleia. After the Romans, Seljuks and Byzantines conquered the city. Finally, Antalya was occupied by Ottoman Empire then evolved into the Turkish Republic. Thus, there are many cultural and archaeological remains left by those civilizations all around the city.
The Lara beach and the Konyaalti beach are ideal for swimming; there, you can find private and public beaches. Besides these beaches, there are also two water parks in Antalya in which various water games are played for families with children and young couples.
Other interesting places in the outskirts of Antalya that can be visited are the Upper and Lower Duden Waterfalls, and Kursunlu Falls; Saklikent, which hosts winter sports due to its being the center for winter sports. Gulluk Mountain National Park is another choice for tourists to visit due to being a famous ancient city of Termessos and Karain Cave. Additionally, Kemer is situated on the coast to the west of the city of Antalya and that is among the most beautiful holiday centers in the Mediterranean Sea. Finally, Phaselis which is located in the south of Kemer is a historic port. The ancient city of Olympos welcomes all comers to allow them to witness the historical ruins.
Due to its geographic location, Antalya is fortunate to have the Taurus mountain which ranges to protects it from Northerly winds and project a natural backdrop worth to see for the city and its population during the day.
