What is Fat Injection?

Fat transfer is a procedure performed by taking the existing fat in the patient’s body and injecting it into different areas. Especially the use of fat taken from the belly and hip area in breast augmentation, facial aesthetics and lip filling has become very popular in recent years. The fat tissue taken by fat transfer preserves its vitality as it is applied to the new area without losing its function.

This procedure is applied with general or local anesthesia. After the fat is taken, it is injected to the desired place after various processes are applied on this fat. The fat transfer method, which is completely natural and has a high rate of success and permanence because the patient’s own fat is used, is completed within one day.

After the fat transfer, some swelling may occur in the applied area, and ice massage can be applied to this area. Temporary loss of sensation may occur in the area where the procedure is performed, if this loss of sensation continues for a long time, you should consult your doctor.

What are the risks involved with fat injection?

As with all medical interventions, this surgery has risks, including death. Some undesirable situations that have been reported in the medical literature that may develop after fat injection surgery are listed below.

Inflammation (infection) may develop at the injection sites, in and around the fattened area. Every surgical application means disruption of skin integrity, which is an important defense organ of the body. If the skin integrity is impaired, there is a risk of infection. There is a possibility that every wound that catches the microbe will cause the abscess, the inflammation to spread to the surrounding tissues, to any other part or whole of the body, or even to death. The infection may present with excessive redness, pain, and inflammatory discharge in the wound area. Infections that may develop can often be controlled with appropriate treatment. This risk is extremely low in blepharoplasty surgery performed by a specialist physician in a suitable environment, but it may occur. In order to prevent infection, the patient should be provided with a suitable hygienic environment after the operation and attention should be paid to wound cleaning. .

In some people, after skin injuries or a surgical procedure, an abnormal healing tissue with pink, red or tan colored, irregular bump appearance may develop on the wound skin. This tissue is called keloid. In case of keloid development, drug injections or additional surgical procedures may be required.

After the injection, swelling and asymmetries can be seen.

Many people are satisfied with the fat filling. However, there is no guarantee for anyone. There is no guarantee that the wrinkles and pits will disappear completely or that additional treatments will not be required to achieve the desired result.

Some of the fat filling will be absorbed, so repeat injections may be required.
