Breast Augmentation Steps

Breast augmentation surgery is performed to enlarge the small breasts, ensure the proportion between the two breasts, and create the most appropriate breast size. Breast augmentation is probably the most popular plastic surgery operatioin the countries. There are different reasons to have this surgery for each patient, and they all have different motives. For example, it is one of the most effective treatments for correcting asymmetry in the breasts or any breast abnormalities. On the other hand, the operation is also preferred after pregnancy.

Before the operation, the patient’s expectations should be determined very well in terms of breast size and shape. Along with that, it is also crucial to decide who will perform your surgery. Before deciding on the surgeon, it would be better to do some research regarding how many breast surgeries the surgeon has performed and their before and after images.

Moreover, while numerous surgical procedures are used to perform this operation, the overall stages are mostly the same. The steps sometimes vary according to the patient’s demands, the breast tissue, and the final appearance desired by the patient.

1) Consultation

After the patient decides to have the breast augmentation surgery, there should be detailed consultation with the surgeon regarding the patient’s expectations. As with any other operations, there are always risks, which are explained to the patient.

2) Anesthesia

After receiving your consultation from the surgeon, the first step of the operation is anesthesia. The patients are put under general anesthesia most of the time. The duration of the surgery may vary, but it can be said that the operation usually takes approximately 1-2 hours.

3) Incisions

With the effect of anesthesia, incisions are made on appropriate areas. It should be noted that incision places may differ depending on the type of breast implant used and the size or anatomy of the patient. In most cases, these incisions are made under the arm and the breast. In addition to this, the incisions will be hidden as much as possible by placing them in natural creases.

4) Placement of the Breast Implants

Following the incision, the surgeon places the breast implants carefully through the opening. The implants can be put beneath the pectoral muscle or directly behind the breast tissue. The placement method of the implant is decided according to the patient’s anatomy and the type and size of the breast implants, and it is decided by the surgeon.

5) The End of Operation: Closing Incision

After replacing the breast implants, the incisions are closed using sutures and surgical tapes. There will be also drain tubes on incision places, but they will be removed within a few days from the surgery according to the patient’s condition.

6) After the Operation

Patients should wear a compression garment for a while after the operation. This special bra will be helpful in terms of having the desired shape for breasts. If no complications are observed, the patient will be kept under observation in the hospital for only 1-2 days and then discharged.

As a result, breast augmentation surgery is one of the most pleasing surgeries; however, it is recommended that the surgery should be performed by an experienced plastic surgeon if you want to get a good result.
