What is Gastric Balloon Surgery - CK Health Turkey

Four main types of operations have been developed when fighting obesity, one of which is ‘’gastric balloon surgery’’. Gastric balloon surgery can be a perfect choice for those who do not want to resort to surgical interventions for weight loss.

The insertion of gastric balloons is characterized by having the least of complications among other types of weight-loss surgeries. Hospitalization after such surgical treatment is not required. You can return to your active lifestyle within two days after gastric balloon treatment.

According to modern requirements, bariatric operations should be performed laparoscopically. That is, excluding wide surgical incisions, and this greatly facilitates the postoperative period and reduces the risk of postoperative complications.

Gastric balloon surgery is not an operation, but rather an outpatient endoscopic treatment. The gastric balloon is suitable for patients with an overweight of 10 to 30 kg or as a preoperative preparation for a patient with morbid obesity. In order to receive the gastric balloon treatment from CK Health Turkey, you should have your free consultation first from the same. If not found suitable for the gastric balloon treatment, your dates might be postponed or canceled overall.

How does it work?

The presence of gastric balloons in the stomach leads to the fact that a significant part of the stomach becomes filled, and, consequently, the amount of food that a person can consume decreases. The balloon stretches the walls of the stomach so that the saturation receptors are in an irritated state. This irritated state of the stomach leads to a rapid feeling of satiety.

How is the gastric balloon inserted?

Insertion of the gastric balloon takes place under the control of gastroscopy and under general anesthesia. To begin with, a gastroscopy is performed, that is, an examination of the esophagus and stomach for the possible presence of diseases that may be a contraindication for insertion of the gastric balloon. The syringe is connected to the catheter, and the balloon begins to inflate, filling with liquid to the required volume (500 ml). The catheter is then pulled out of the balloon, and the valve closes. In the patient’s stomach, the balloon becomes free. The last step of the procedure is to remove the gastroscope and catheter.

For how long is the gastric balloon placed?

The maximum time of the balloon in the stomach is 6 months. After this period of time, the balloon must necessarily be removed, since hydrochloric acid, which is present in the gastric juice, gradually destroys its walls. On request of the patient to continue treatment in this way, the old balloon is replaced with a new one.

How does a person lose weight after the Insertion of the gastric balloon?

Body weight loss starts with the insertion of the gastric balloon. The results of weight loss are affected by compliance with the postoperative diet.
