What to know on post-op Rhinoplasty Surgery?

If you have a tampon in your nose, it will be removed by healthcare professionals on the 2nd or 3rd day after rhinoplasty surgery.

Using your prescribed medication after your surgery as instructed reduces the level of pain.

You may feel nauseous after your surgery. This is due to the effects of the anesthesia. This is absolutely normal, and the effects start to disappear in a short term.

Not being able to breathe through your nose can make it difficult for you to sleep. However, breathing through your mouth can help during your healing process.

Sleeping with 2 large pillows will minimize swelling of your nose after your surgery. This also helps to reduce bruising and limit possible bleeding.

We recommend limiting your sunlight exposure for at least 2 months. You may wear a hat or use sunscreen to avoid the negative effects of it on your medically successful rhinoplasty surgery.

We recommend that you do not bend over, play with your nose or lift anything heavy after your rhinoplasty surgery.

Usually, in the middle of the 2nd week, bruises around the area of operation start to vanish.

The swelling at the tip of the nose will take longer to heal. As the days go by, you will see your nose will become more elegant.

You may feel numbness at the tip of your nose, but this feeling will pass over time.

Almost all of the swelling in your nose goes away 12 months after your nose surgery. It will take approximately 6 months to a year to take its final form. At this stage, you can contact one of our health professionals to be examined.

  • Sports: As a general rule, you should avoid any strenuous physical exercise for at least 8 weeks after rhinoplasty. A week after the operation, you can start doing light exercises such as walking with the approval of your surgeon. Follow the advice of our healthcare professionals for smooth recovery. 
  • Sexual Intercourse: Approximately after 3 – 4 weeks, you may continue with your sexual activities.
  • Alcohol and Smoking: Avoid drinking alcohol 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. Smoking and alcohol consumption can narrow vessels, disrupt tissue nutrition, and cause cell death, and inflammation.
  • Driving: You may start to drive approximately after 2 weeks. Driving without completing your recovery process can adversely affect your driving.


You may start swimming at least 2 months after your surgery with the approval of your surgeon.

You may start to take a shower at least 1 week after surgery with the approval of your surgeon.
